FRESH BAKED - Jaipur (What's in the Box?)

Half the fun of getting a new game is opening the box! I got this for my birthday last week and I finally had a chance to open it! I've played the game before so I know what's in it going in, but still....a FRESH new game ready to be opened!

Ok, so the one I have for today is called Jaipur. This is a 2-player game that came out in 2009 and is designed by Sébastien Pauchon. The main premise is you are a trader in Jaipur, India, and you are trying to make the best deals on your trades. A turn involves picking up cards to form sets, picking up camels to use later, or trading in cards for coins. That's it! The coins decrease in value as more are obtained, so you want to get in early. However, if you wait a bit and trade in more commodities at once, you can also get a bonus coin token to increase the value of the trade. Get the most coin values and you win the round! Play as many rounds as you like for a full game (typically 3).

Timely Topics - Why game? Why not? (En Garde!)

Hello, come in, come in. Glad to see you back. I'm a little tired tonight so let's play a simple game and have a nice chat.

Perhaps En Garde? Fencing with cards! Start with a deck of 25 cards, 5 each of 1-5 value. Play your card from a hand of 5 cards and move forward or back. Play another card to attack! Or play 2 or more for a stronger attack! I can play the same card(s) to parry then can attack back or move. You get a point if the attack is not parried. Play to 5 points to win. Simple! Fast! Fun!

Just Gaming Around - Flying Pirates (Family Game Review)

Today I have something quick and fun. My friend Wes brought a couple of kids games with him last weekend. In fact, he was playing one at the kitchen table with my kids when I returned home from the grocery store and it looked like they were having a lot of fun!

As soon as I got settled in my son challenged me to a duel! The game was called Flying Pirates! Arrrrrr!
